We accept Indiana Medicaid.

Anthem, CareSource, MHS, Humana Healthy Horizons, and traditional Indiana Medicaid. Checking your coverage doesn't mean you've decided anything. It just means you'll know.

Yes. Indiana Medicaid covers residential treatment for substance use disorders when it is medically necessary — through managed-care plans including Anthem, CareSource, MHS and Humana Healthy Horizons, and through traditional fee-for-service Medicaid. What many people search for as inpatient treatment is 24/7 residential care, and that is the level of care this page covers. Coverage check happens on the call.

Understanding your Indiana Medicaid coverage for residential treatment

Taking the first step toward treatment is the hardest part. Knowing your coverage is in place takes real pressure off the decision.

Indiana Medicaid is delivered two ways: through managed-care plans (the state calls them managed care entities), and through traditional fee-for-service coverage billed directly through the Indiana Health Coverage Programs. Jasper Grove is in-network with Anthem, CareSource, MHS and Humana Healthy Horizons, and accepts traditional Indiana Medicaid. Each plan has its own page on our Indiana Medicaid hub. Whichever card you carry, the coverage check works the same way: one call, and we verify your plan for medical detox and residential treatment before you commit to anything.

What the state actually covers

The Indiana Health Coverage Programs — the state’s name for the Medicaid program — cover residential treatment for opioid use disorder and other substance use disorders when it is delivered by a facility enrolled with the state as a substance use disorder (SUD) residential addiction treatment facility. Two things follow from that for you:

Prior authorization is usually required for a residential stay. The state’s rule is that residential stays are approved with evidence of medical necessity. In practice that means a clinical assessment, submitted to your plan. You don’t have to arrange that yourself — our admissions team handles the authorization with your plan as part of the coverage check.

Coverage depends on your plan and your eligibility. Residential treatment is a covered benefit, but what you pay can differ. Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP) members, for example, may have POWER Account contributions and copays. We don’t quote a number until we’ve verified your specific plan — then we tell you exactly what’s covered and what, if anything, you’d owe.

How to get covered

1. Apply for Indiana Medicaid

If you aren’t enrolled yet, apply through the FSSA Benefits Portal or the state’s apply for Medicaid page. Which program you land in — Healthy Indiana Plan, Hoosier Healthwise, Hoosier Care Connect, Indiana PathWays for Aging or Traditional Medicaid — depends on your age, income and situation; the state’s member programs page lists which programs serve children, pregnant women, adults, and people who are aged, blind or disabled. Income limits change year to year, so don’t assume you won’t qualify.

2. Talk to your doctor or a treatment professional

A primary care provider, a counselor or our admissions team can help you understand whether residential care is the right level for what you’re facing.

3. Get a clinical assessment and authorization

Residential treatment is authorized on medical necessity, so the first clinical step is an assessment. Whether care begins in medical detox or residential treatment is a clinical decision, made with you. Our team submits the authorization to your plan.

4. Find a treatment center that accepts your plan

Jasper Grove is one of the few centers in greater Indianapolis that accepts Indiana Medicaid. We’re a Joint Commission-accredited residential treatment center at 6330 Digital Way, offering medical detox and residential treatment for adults, with medication-assisted treatment and co-occurring mental-health care available as part of treatment. Admissions answers 24/7, and we verify your insurance before you commit to anything.

Commercial insurance or military coverage instead?

Indiana Medicaid is one of the plans we accept, not the only one. Commercial insurance and military and veteran coverage are accepted too — see the plans we accept, or read more about paying for treatment.
