Tangible results from exceptional treatment

Research shows that combining medication with behavioral therapy improves recovery outcomes and reduces relapse risk compared to behavioral treatment alone.

Medications used in MAT

As part of our comprehensive addiction treatment services, we use FDA-approved medications as part of MAT, never as a standalone solution. Medications may include:

  • Suboxone® (buprenorphine/naloxone): Reduces cravings and withdrawal symptoms for opioid use disorder. It helps stabilize brain chemistry while lowering overdose risk. Treatment typically includes induction (starting safely), stabilization (finding an effective dose), and maintenance (supporting sustained recovery). Potential side effects may include headache, nausea, constipation, or sleep changes. Your care team will monitor and adjust your dosage as needed.
  • Subutex® (buprenorphine): Used in specific clinical situations when the naloxone combination is not appropriate.
  • Vivitrol® (naltrexone): A non-opioid medication used for opioid and alcohol use disorders. It blocks euphoric effects and reduces relapse risk. It may be available as an oral medication or an extended-release injection. Naltrexone requires that opioids are fully out of the system before starting, so candidacy and timing are evaluated carefully.

All medications are prescribed after a full medical evaluation, are closely monitored, and are paired with therapy and structured support.

Who is MAT for?

MAT may be appropriate for individuals with opioid or alcohol use disorder when physical dependence makes stopping difficult or unsafe.

It is often recommended for individuals who:

  • Experience strong opioid cravings
  • Struggle with withdrawal symptoms
  • Have relapsed
  • Are at risk for overdose
  • Need structured support while stabilizing
  • Have co-occurring conditions such as anxiety, depression, or PTSD

If you are unsure whether medication is necessary, our admissions team can walk through your history and help determine the safest next step.
